You are invited to a very special place, a place of peace and tranquility, a place of spectacular beauty and wonderful wildlife. You are invited to Waterton Lakes National Park. In celebration of the peace and goodwill that exists between Canada and the United States, Glacier National Park, Montana, and Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, were joined to form Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, the first of its kind in the world and in 1995 became a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Exceptional natural beauty, a special climate, the meeting of mountains and prairie and the significant triple divide watershed (rivers flowing into three oceans) are the Parks distinguishing features. Waterton offers exceptional wildlife viewing and is extraordinarily rich with wildflowers. More than 50% of all wildflowers found in Alberta, including many rare species, bloom in Waterton in the spring and summer. Beargrass is Waterton's showiest plant.
The cozy mountain community, population 55, is surrounded by magnificent scenery and offers all the services visitors will need to make their stay a memorable one. From streetside eateries to gift boutiques, fine art galleries and fine food dining, Waterton townsite is the hub of the Park.
